  • A Sneak Peek at the Orbit Player

    In this Tech Doctor episode, Robert begins by speaking with the CEO of Orbit Research, Venkatesh Chari, about the Orbit Player. This product is in the late stages of development and is expected to be available sometime during the summer of 2025. The Orbit Player is a very small but full featured book and media player with a telephone style keypad and a good sounding speaker. Venkatesh explained that Orbit Research was able to create this high quality but very affordable player by doing the development and manufacturing in India.

    Venkatesh describes how the Orbit Player has gone from a product designed to provide accessible and affordable technology for blind people in India to a product that will soon be available in the United States and eventually worldwide.

    The remainder of the podcast is spent with Robert providing a comprehensive demonstration of a pre-released version of the Orbit Player.

  • From Braille ‘n Speak To BT Speak

    In this episode of the Tech Doctor podcast, the Tech Doctors welcome special guest Nicole Bond and Tim Noonan.

     

    Nicole and Tim were Braille ’n Speak users who enthusiastically explained why they loved the Braille ’n Speak. Nicole got her Braille ’n Speak at age 7 and used it through college. Tim used the Braille ’n Speak both on the job and in his personal life.

     

    Robert, also a Braille ’n Speak user provided some historical context and talked about his role as a Braille ’n Speak beta tester.

     

    Allison, Robert, Tim and Nicole are all now BT Speak users. They explain how the BT Speak has filled the void that was left during the many years  when there was no Braille ’n Speak like device available.

     

    They also looked at how far the BT Speak has come in a little less than a year. Tim demonstrated some examples of how the BT Speak is evolving to meet the needs of its users. In a future update, the BT Speak will offer a One Handed Mode for people who need it. There will be a new much advanced way of managing multiple files in the editor and the famous Braille ’n Speak Append Mode is coming to the BT Speak.

     

    As exciting as all of this is, at only one year old, the BT Speak is just getting started. The Tech Doctors will report new developments as they unfold. Stay tuned. We will be back.

  • Customers and Developers Work Together to Make Sure that the BT Speak Evolves into an Even Better Product

    In this Tech Doctor podcast, Robert talks with seven members of the team at Blazie Technologies. The people who were interviewed included Deane Blazie, his three sons, Bryan, Chris and Stephen, Steve Clower, David Goldfield and Tim Noonan.

     

    Each member of the Blazie Technologies team stressed their commitment to allowing the customer to be the guiding force behind the development of the BT Speak. They encouraged their customers to let them know what features and capabilities they wanted and needed in the BT Speak..

     

    After summarizing and demonstrating some of the new features of the BT Speak that became available in the January 2025 update, They answered questions and took comments from  the audience that was participating live in the Zoom meeting.

     

    The Blazie Technologies team demonstrated their willingness and desire to listen to and respond to their customers  with understanding, kindness and appreciation. It was refreshing to see this type of interaction between the developers and their customers.

  • Fast and Loose: Apple iPad Event

    On May the 7th, Apple held an event entitled “Fast and Loose.” The company introduced four new iPads, a new Apple Pencil and a new Magic Keyboard.

    In addition to telling you about the event, the Tech Doctors explore their feeling that the iPad is in a transition period where its full potential has not yet been realized. While they acknowledge that the iPad does a lot of things well, there are aspects of the user experience that still need to be further developed.

    They do believe that the future is bright for the iPad and they look forward to seeing what comes next.
