This is Robert one of the tech doctors and I'm here alone this time because I'm going to do a very brief podcast on the Apple event that took place on October 30th, 2023. The event was called scary fast and so therefore this is the scary fast podcast because I'm going to do it very quickly here. This Apple event came as a bit of a surprise and it was done. in the late afternoon in Cupertino, 5 o'clock Pacific time, 7 o'clock my time. So it was an evening event for me, which is not typical for Apple the purpose of the event was to introduce the M3 chip. This is Apple's newest silicon that they have come out with to enhance the MacBook Pro laptop line. There are three versions of this chip and some new MacBook Pro hardware designed to support this chip. There is also a refresh to the 24-inch IMAC, which is moving from the M1 series chip to the M3. The three versions of the chip are the M3, the M3 Pro, and the M3 Max. There is a new 14-inch MacBook Pro. which replaces the old 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro does not have the touch bar. There's also. a new 16-inch MacBook Pro and these machines can run the M3, the M3 Pro, and the M3 Pro Max. All three of these M3 chips are very much designed to work. for the professional computer user, for people who do lots of video editing. movie makers and the like, with people who do game development, things like that. that require a lot of computing power and it's amazing what Apple has done with their silicon. It operates extremely fast, extremely low heat and gives excellent battery life, 20 plus hours of battery life. These computers can also operate at the same speed whether they are connected to AC power or whether they're being used on battery. Just to give you an example, The regular M3 chip has 25 billion transistors. The M3 Max has 92 billion transistors. When I was a kid in the 1960s, I had a transistor radio that had four transistors. We have come a long way, baby, since then. Nothing has changed with the 24-inch iMac. except that it has moved from the M1 processor to this new M3. chip. These are really significant advancements for the MacBook Pro and if you You will need a pro laptop. These are excellent machines. It looks really good for the MacBook Pro. Personally I am still using a MacBook Air M1 version. and I find the MacBook Air to be quite sufficient for my needs, including editing. audio, no problem. I just don't do anything that is that power intensive that I have. found the need to move to a MacBook Pro although I used to always use a MacBook Pro when they used the Intel architecture. The Apple event itself contains a lot of statistics and data and comparisons of how these chips stack up against especially the M1 chip. might want to go back to the Apple event if you want to get a lot of detail. I simply wanted to summarize what was presented. David and Allison and I are going to be back later in November. to do an end-of-the-year Apple review podcast that will give us a chance to talk more about these chips and to to really stress some of the things that we think are most important for or a blind or visually impaired computer user to know when trying to make decisions about purchasing current. Apple products. Until then, everybody take care. So long y'all.
